How it works

DOUZO is your place to create and share a gift list in just a few simple steps.  See also Frequently Asked Questions or explore some sample lists here.

1. Create a list

Decide how you want your list to look and function:

  • Choose from a range of DOUZO designs.  You personalise your list page by uploading a photo and adding a few words about your event.
  • Choose whether to make the list available to anyone on the internet or private to a list of named individuals.
  • Decide whether you want to take control of your list to track who has given what, or assign someone to be the list manager on your behalf.  We find that brides and grooms often ask a best man, friend or family member to be the list manager for them - partly to maintain some element of surprise and partly because they have enough to do with all the other arrangements.

2. Add gifts to the list

If you can imagine it, you can list it.  There are no restrictions on what you can have as a gift nor how many gifts you can have.  You can add pictures, links, and descriptions of what you want.

Think about listing:

  • Treats, such as meals out, spa treatments, room service
  • Things that can be bought from a specific retailer: for example, something from your favourite store or a particular brand of perfume
  • Things that can be bought from a number of outlets: for example, books, CDs, plants
  • Experiences: for example, honeymoon treats, driving lessons
  • Gifts to charity: for example, contributions to facilities in third-world countries or support for a local cause.
  • Pledges of help: perhaps a day of decorating, a lift to the airport, pet-sitting while you are away.
  • Lower-cost gifts that one person could afford.
  • Expensive items that you can split into a number of contributions, such as big items of furniture split into shares of £10 each.  Your friends and family have the satisfaction of choosing what their money is buying and you get something that might otherwise have been out of reach.

3. Share your list with friends and family

Through DOUZO, they browse your list and choose what they want to give. Their choice is reserved to avoid duplicate gifts.

4. Receive gifts

If it's something that givers can buy personally, such as a small household item, they buy the item and give or send it directly to you.  If they choose a money contribution, they send the money directly to you (or to your list manager, if you have one) by bank transfer, cheque or by Paypal.  Before the list closes, you receive a summary of who gave what.

5. Enjoy!

Enjoy receiving gifts that you really want.  We'd love to hear how you used DOUZO and what tips you'd pass on to others.  Share your story with us here.
