Using DOUZO
What can I use a list for?
Any event you like. Weddings and birthdays are obvious choices. But what about baby showers? Christenings? Anniversaries? Christmas? Coming of age ceremonies? Fund-raising? Getting kitted out for a gap year or going to college? What about a house-warming? Collecting props for a local theatre event? Or getting pledges of help for someone in need. There is no limit to the possibilities.

Why is DOUZO different to other online gift lists?
There are a number of important differences:
- You can mix and match any type of gift. The only limit on the type of gift is your imagination. Other lists tie you into a retailer or contributions to a single event, such as a honeymoon fund. DOUZO gives you complete flexibility about the type of gift you list. It is a place where friends and family can choose what to give, where there can be gifts for every budget and every preference. Personalisation options make your list unique to you. The easy-to-access format makes it simple to get what you want without the hassle of coordinating a traditional gift list.
- You can ask someone to manage the list on your behalf. This is popular with brides and grooms who already have plenty to do and who would welcome the surprise of finding out who has given them what gift. Young people also find it useful to delegate to parents.
- You pay only a small, one-off fee. It doesn't matter how many gifts you have, how much the gifts cost, or how many people you share the list with. There are no administrative fees or sliding-scale charges and no charge for people to use your list.
- Money contributions come directly and immediately to you from the giver. DOUZO doesn't store up your money. Any money comes directly and immediately to you. Nothing is deducted from what people give you.

How much does it cost?
A standard list is £10. There is an additional charge of £2 if you choose to use a premium list design. That's it. There are no fees based on the value of your gifts, no administrative charges, and there is no charge for people to use your list.

None. After you have bought your gift list, there are no further charges.

What do you do with my information?
DOUZO is committed to safeguarding your personal information. Our privacy policy and terms and conditions give detailed explanations of what information we take, what use we make of that information, and how we protect that information.

How long will my list be there?
Your list will stay open for one calendar month after your event.

Can I reuse my gift list?
No. Each gift list is unique when it is set up. You can download a summary of your list before it closes and you can reuse information from this summary on a new list.

My event has been cancelled or postponed. What happens to my gift list?
Please contact us with information about your circumstances. In most cases of cancellation, we will issue a credit that you can use for another list in future. If your event is postponed, we can modify the date of the list on your behalf.

Setting up a list
What kind of gifts can I include?
If you can imagine it, you can list it. You can provide pictures, links and information to guide people to what you want. Remember that DOUZO allows you to split larger gifts into affordable contributions so you can think big.
Would you like?
- Items that are available only from a specific retailer: for example, a bag that you like, or a piece of kitchenware to match something that you already have
- Items that are available from multiple outlets: for example, books, CDs, plants, or wine.
- Experiences: for example, diving lessons, a massage in a salon of your choice, dinner at your honeymoon resort,
- Gifts to charity: for example, contributions towards facilities in a third-world country or support for a local cause
- Pledges of help: for example, with renovating your house, teaching you to drive, pet-sitting while you are on honeymoon.
- Smaller items that an individual could buy for you.
- Bigger things that individuals can contribute to: for example, a significant piece of jewellery or furniture or home improvement, travel, or events.

How many gifts can I have?
There is no limit to the number of gifts or gift contributions that you can set up. Your list is yours to fill.

How do people find out about my list?
Through you. You let them know the Web address (URL) of your list and we take care of the rest. You choose the address so it can be as memorable and personal as you like.

Can anyone see my list?
It's up to you. When you set up your list, we ask you whether you want to restrict who can see your list or whether you want it to be available to anyone on the internet. If you choose to restrict it, potential givers must be given access by you or by your list manager.

How do I know who has given what?
When you set up your list, you can choose to be notified whenever someone buys a gift for you. When you finish with your list, you can download a summary of all purchases in PDF format.

How will I receive my gifts?
There are two ways of receiving gifts on your list:
- Direct from the giver. This is the case if the giver buys you an item that is available from a retailer and brings this with them to your event, or if the giver has the item delivered directly to you from the retailer.
- As money contributions. These will come directly to you, or through your list manager if you have chosen to delegate the task of collecting money.

Can I connect my DOUZO list to another gift list?
You can add items to your DOUZO list with links to those items on another gift list.

Can I receive gifts from friends and family outside the UK?
Yes, but be aware that bank transfers from abroad might incur fees over which we have no control.

Can I change my list?
You, or your list manager, can add or remove or change gifts on the list at any time. You can change almost all options on the way your list looks and functions at any time after you have set it up.

Can I change the design of my list?
Yes. There are a number of list designs to choose from. If you paid for a premium design, you can change to any of the premium designs, even after you have started to share your list with others.

Can I have a list design of my own?
DOUZO offers a number of list designs and we hope you will find something that suits you and your event. If you would like to have a bespoke template, contact us to discuss your requirements.

Do I have to have a list manager?
It's up to you. Someone has to act as the list manager but you choose whether this is you or whether you ask someone to do it on your behalf. We have found that having a separate list manager is particularly popular with brides and grooms so that the gifts and givers come as a surprise on the day. Young people might also ask a parent to act as their list manager for birthday or Christmas lists. This makes it simpler to receive money contributions if the young person doesn't have a bank or Paypal account of their own. We've also seen a son or daughter managing a list for parents who are celebrating a special anniversary.

What does a list manager do?
The list manager tracks who has bought what from your list and makes sure that any money contributions are received. You can decide whether you want to see the progress of your list or whether you want the list manager to keep that for you until the day of your event.

Do I have to sign up to choose a gift?
No. You sign up only if you are creating a gift list.

No. Access to the gift list is free for givers.

I chose a gift but now I've changed my mind.
You will need to contact the list owner, or their delegated list manager to reset your choice. The contact details for the list manager are on the email sent to you when you first chose a gift. If you get stuck, contact us.

Can I give something that is not on the list?
Yes, you can. A DOUZO list helps you to contribute a chosen gift, but you are always free to offer something that is not listed. In this case, you can either ask the list manager whether your gift can be added as an item on the DOUZO gift list or you can purchase and give it independently.

How do you collect the money for gifts?
This is the responsibility of the recipients, or their list manager if they have appointed one to act on their behalf. When they set up a list, they specify how money will be handled.

Will I get a receipt for my gift?
You will receive two confirmation emails:
- From DOUZO when you select a gift for purchase
- If your gift is a money contribution, from the list manager, when your contribution is received.
